EarthGirls is the love child of Silvija Ziman and Kristina Grbavac. Having grown up together in a small community it was inevitable that the two would join forces to shop. Fashion and skincare became a passion as early as age 11. The two dreamt of opening a boutique that would feature their favorite jeans, purses, t-shirts, cleansers, eye creams ... In order to fund their shopping habits, the girls joined the corporate world after college and put their dream of a grand boutique on the backburner.
Years later the two decided to finally collaborate, but the world had somewhat changed — at least their outlook on it had. Was it indulgent to be so concerned about fashion? Was it frivolous to want to look good? The fashion and textile industry takes a great toll on the environment with air pollution, pesticide misuse, transport emissions, and tons of landfill waste from clothes that have seen better days. Then there is the social injustice of overcrowded sweatshops, child labor, and criminally low wages for those making the clothes. What is a girl to do?
The two decided that the roll of fashion in human nature could not be ignored and the two would open a boutique like no other. They wanted the high style but without the guilt. It called for fashion with a conscience. They wanted to connect to designers and manufacturers that had the same missions and commitments. That is how the idea of featuring only eco-friendly products came about. All the products in the boutique have been made with consideration for the environment — the use of non-toxic dyes, minimizing
carbon miles of travel with local production when possible, and the use of eco-friendly materials such as bamboo and hemp. Ethical commerce means supporting free trade, using designers and manufacturers that pay fair wages and do not exploit workers.
Don't think organic means hippy-hemp or non-luxurious. EarthGirls carries fresh and innovative clothing and skincare that rivals any boutique in the city or online. It can only be high style for these two girls.
